Plant Profile: Peace Lily

Spathiphyllum spp.

Elegant, leafy, and wonderfully easy to care for, the Peace Lily is a timeless indoor favourite. Known for its deep green foliage and graceful white blooms, it brings a sense of calm and softness to interiors while thriving in a wide range of indoor conditions.

Why We Love It

Peace Lilies are loved for their lush foliage and ability to brighten low-light spaces with minimal effort. Their glossy leaves add richness and texture, while the white flowers bring a simple, sculptural beauty that works beautifully in modern interiors.

Light

Bright, indirect light is ideal. Peace Lilies tolerate lower light conditions well, making them perfect for bedrooms, offices, and shaded corners. However, brighter filtered light will encourage stronger growth and more frequent flowering.

Water

Keep the soil lightly moist. Peace Lilies prefer consistent watering but don’t like soggy soil. Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry out.

Tip: Peace Lilies are dramatic communicators! Drooping leaves are often a sign that they’re thirsty, and they usually perk up quickly after watering.

Soil & Pot

A well-draining indoor potting mix works best. Choose a pot with drainage holes to avoid excess moisture building around the roots.

Temperature & Humidity

Peace Lilies enjoy warm, humid conditions. Average indoor temperatures are ideal, though they appreciate higher humidity levels. Bathrooms, laundries, or kitchens with filtered light often suit them beautifully.

Growth & Maintenance

Low-maintenance and rewarding. Remove spent flowers and yellowing leaves at the base to keep the plant tidy. Wiping the leaves occasionally will help maintain their glossy appearance and allow the plant to absorb more light.

Flowers

The iconic white “flowers” are actually modified leaves called spathes, surrounding a central flower spike. With the right care, Peace Lilies can bloom multiple times throughout the year, adding brightness and contrast to their rich green foliage.
